Approach Therapy is seen as a collaboration between
client and therapist in discovering new and preferred ways to be
in the world. I believe that every person has the innate ability
to move toward health and healing and has the capacity to achieve
it. My approach is to work in partnership with clients to identify
what their goal is and how they want to approach making changes.
I am an EMDR certified and EMDRIA Approved Consultant. I have
trained in a broad range of therapies including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy,
Brief-focused therapy, advanced treatment in Hypnotherapy, Multi-phased
Trauma Treatment, Attachment Theory, Narrative Therapy, and Couples
Treatment.
All human experiences create responses and memory within
our bodies, cognitively (beliefs and narratives we hold), emotionally
(feelings we have in response), and physically (how the body takes
in experinecs through all the senses). When these life experiences
are distressing and/or traumatic, these procedural learning patterned
responses can cause us become more anxious, depressed, reactive
and/or feel 'stuck' in our lives. We often experience a repetition
of these patterns in our relationships, further re-enforcing patterns
that prove distressing and unfulfilling. Psychotherapy has the
potential to change these patterns, resolve traumatic events and
destructive relational patterns. I have found integrating EMDR,
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Attachment Theory, and Narrative Approaches
provide effective ways to resolve both trauma and other powerful
events that have impacted on our ability to pursue goals and happiness.
EMDR
is an adaptive information processing treatment that is effective
for a broad range of psychological, emotional, and physiological
issues. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a therapeutic approach to
process unassimilated sensorimotor responses to trauma and assist
in assimilating these experiences both cognitively and emotionally.
Narrative Therapy focuses on the stories people construct about
their lives. Our stories inform us on how to act, think, and be
in the world. These stories can be enabling and empowering or dominating
and destructive. In my experience, an integrative approach to treatment
is effective in alleviating the distress caused by trauma and other
life events that otherwise can limit us experiencing our full potential.
