Approach My preferred approach to therapy with
clients is to hear from clients
themselves about their ideas of what can be helpful and useful in
addressing their situation and together create solutions and alternatives
to the challenges they are experiencing. I am trained in a broad
range therapies including EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, hypnotherapy,
trauma, and couples treatment. My work is also influenced by Narrative
ideas. Narrative Therapy focuses on the stories people construct
about their lives. Our stories inform us on how to act, think and
be in the world. These stories can be enabling and empowering or
dominating and destructive. When people come to therapy, their stories
are often stuck and limited by a problem. The 'problem' stories
have become oppressive and destructive. I believe altering our experience
and connection to a 'problem' facilitates growth and assists people
to become active in the re-authoring of their own lives.
All of our experiences create patterns with our emotional reactions,
our beliefs, our behaviors, and our bodies. These patterns can cause
us become more anxious, more depressed, and/or 'stuck' in our lives.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and EMDR provide effective ways to assist
clients in resolving both trauma and other powerful events that
have impacted on our ability to pursue goals and happiness.
My approach is to work in partnership with clients to identify
what their goal is and how they want to approach making changes.
I believe that each of us is the expert on our lives. As therapist,
I have the utmost respect for the expertise of the client. The therapy
is seen as a collaboration between client and therapist in discovering
new and preferred ways to be in the world.
